3-4-5Plato and the Pythagoreans composed their philosophy in a language of two-fold meaning embedded in metaphor and allegory, parables if you will, concealed in a system of number and geometry. Their cosmologies were always dependent upon numerical and geometric images, which influenced other writers as well as artists. The Greek philosophers, were fascinated with what might be called the "attractive features" of certain geometric figures. One of the best examples is the 3-4-5 triangle, a right triangle featuring whole number ratios. The symbolic significance attributed to this figure and this number series have had a profound on religion and art through the years.
 The three, represented by the equialteral triangle, symbolizes divinity. Four, the square and the cube symbolize matter and the material world; while five, as we have seen is represented by the pentagon and dodecahedron, and symbolizes the realm of ideas. Some writers have attempted to represent the ad quadratum, ad triangulum and the quintile approaches to construct geometry as seperate entities. I suggest that they were three elements in the same scheme; that they were all three include as repsentatives of one of the sides of the 3-4-5 triangle.
The PentagonIt is my contention that the purpose for moving from the "nine worlds" diagram, to one that features ten spheres, was to incorporate the pentagram into any design scheme that it might be used for, but more importantly, because it matches the form of the dodecahedron; because it DOES NOT match Metatron's Cube. Note that the location for the top corners for the pentagon are established by extending the top two edges of the hexagon.
Spheres Two and ThreeIt has already been pointed out that the shift from nine to ten spheres leaves a blank spot where Saturn used to be in the hex/planets image, and adds two spheres above that.
 These are the zodiac and Saturn, two and three, space and time respectively. The zodiac and the notion of space are both represented by Nuit.
The CathedralIn the cathedral plan, these two spheres are positioned on either sides of the dome, with what is called the latern above that. The lantern represents the first sphere, Kether, the Crown, as well as the notion of heavenly light (fire, the divine spark). Together, these top three constitute what is called the "triple crown" by cabalists. The dome, or open space (Saturn's "old" place), represents Daath, which is not marked on the tree.
 Looking at the image of Nuit again, we can see that, in addition to representing the dome of the sky, her body is shaped like a bell, a common fixture at this location in churches.
12 and 24While 3+4 = 7, the number of perfection (seven planets, liberal arts etc), 3 X 4 = 12, the number of completion, because 3+4+5 = 12 also. 12 and 24 are the number of months in a year and the hours in a day. 5 X 6 = 30, or the average days in a solar month, while 12 X 30 is the number of degrees in a circle and square. The total number of days in a solar year is 360 + 5, or 365. Oh well, it worked out pretty well up to their. Then 13 (28 day) lunar months plus a day that make up a solar year is more attractive mathematically, but the numbers work in completely differnt sums (base on 7 days of course). As has been pointed out several times, the ad quadratum, featuring figures with 4, 8, 12 and 16 sides, derived from a square in a circle, is appropriate for floors, while ad triangulum, featuring figures with 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 sides, derived from a hexagon in a circle, which figures the cube, is appropriate for 3D space; and since the rythms of the triangulum and the quadratum agree at 12 and 24, those are the only two appropriate quadratum numbers for elevations. Putting together 12 and 24 as time related numbers, and Saturn or Chronos, time, at the third sphere, we arrive at the notion of clocks located there. The first image below is a mantel clock modeled on a cathedral, and the second is the astonomical clock from the Wells Cathedral.
Sphere Number SixAs you should know by now, the sixth sphere is associated with the sun, the hexaram/cube etc. Lions have always been used as solar symbols, because the sun rules Leo, August being when the summer heat is the worst in the northern hemisphere. Take a look at the lions above the west door to the Milan Cathedral, then one at the plan (above) to see where the sixth sphere falls.
Spheres Number Nine and TenSpheres nine and ten are associated with the Moon and the earth respectively. Nine is the crypt beneath the ground, while 10 is the earth itself. The word crypt comes from the Greek word Kryptos, meaning hidden. Formerly these underground chambers of temples contained statues of Isis, which later became the black virgins, alchemical symbol of first matter in a mineral state, the virgin earth so to speak. Remember that Isis is depicted with a headress featuring cow horns and the moon.
