The Geometric Figure Forming The PlanIt appears now, that the statement in the Canon that the geometric figure forming the plan of the cathedral is the rhombus, could just as well have named the hexagon (six equilateral triangles) or the Star of David (two eq. tri.), as in " the figure forming the plan is a hexagon in a circle or a hexagram (star of david)". Actually the basic building block for the grid is the 30-60-90 triangle that Plato called the most beautiful right triangle, mainly because it is exactly half of the equilateral triangle, indicating unity manifested in duality. The rhombus, then, is made of two of these equilateral tringles, just as the star is.
Fire and WaterWhile the upward pointing triangle is the alchemical symbol for fire, aspiration or rising up, and male force , the downward pointing one is the symbol for water (as it flows downward) and the female force; a pair of opposites or complements. Together these form the rhombus. When combined (either as a rhombus or as the star), they form a symbol of balance and divine union (the royal wedding); in short, crossing in general. Borrowing from a book called "When God was a Woman", Dan Brown, in his "DaVinci Code" (page 445), identifies these two figures (below left) as the blade (point up) and the chalise (with the point down), which are figured like this (below right) in the former book.

Rods or WandsIn the Tarot deck, each of the four suits represents one of the elements: earth, air, fire and water; with the pentacles or coins signifying earth, swords symbolizing air, rods or wands for fire and cups for water. It appears to me that Jonathan Hale fudges a little bit, when he proclaims (in "Old Way of Seeing Things") that the vesica is the shape of fire, of a flame, because flames aren't pointed on the bottom; are they?
![]() At any rate, it appears that Crowley was on the same page as Hale, because all of the cards in the Wand suit in his Tarot deck, form rhombus and rhombus grids with the wands. Recall the scepter or wand which the figure of alchemy (from Fulcanelli) holds in her left hand.
